There are replacements for linux for like Eagle for example, but again some stuff is registered to my old motherboard, are there tools to fake motherboard numbers in linux ? no idea and don't fancy spending weeks trying to figure it out. I don't want to buy updated versions to run on Windows 10 or Linux either..

Thing ares going subscription based like Eagle these days... we don't just pay out once for software and own it anymore.. You keep having to pay out all the time, And to get a full licence is simply not cheap either. People have been moaning about this in Eagle for ages that they are not interested in the hobbyist users (even users like me which will be willing to pay for updates, but again not a fan of subscription services). I know my old version 4 of Eagle will work indefinitely, limiting factor being Windows itself as per usual.

I still play UT2004 Direct IP, I have read people have got this working on Windows 10... I know this is on steam, but frankly I don't play games on steam much because once the hosting server dies, you can't play the game any more.. UT2004 is one of the few games where direct IP can still be played providing windows can run it that is. But with such old software anyway, I don't really want to set myself up in fighting stupid bugs for the next two years with it all.

In terms of Windows going wrong.. I swear Microsoft deliberately put something into break it at some point...Going back to 98SE days, I could have a system running "perfectly well" for years, And coincidentally when the support date ended, I started having issues where even a fresh install was struggling to run.. In the end I gave up and installed XP... where coincidentally not long after the support date ended really strange things started happening (like crashes for no reason etc) when I finally gave up and end installed win7...

I suspect my Windows 7 will start behaving strangely in about a years time. No great surprise some people will probably say... In the olden days, everything was installed from CD and Internet access via modem was slow and expensive, So my old machines were rarely online get infected with something.

I will just see what happens with win7...If it starts to malfunction I will restore a backup and take the machine of the Internet, if it still malfunctions, aside from hardware failures, I would think Microsoft have deliberately broken something in the OS to force people to update, but if that's the case, I am getting off the Microsoft wagon totally and I'm just not playing these games with them any more.

I could possibly install Windows 10 on a spare drive in to see what the hell happens, but I just really don't have the time or patience for it all anymore. If I'm going to start messing about, I might as well just install Ubuntu and just see where I end up. I will just use my Windows 7 rig until it all goes wrong and then retire, that would be the easiest thing to do :)

Just had a look at the stats on my server to what OS versions are being run...

By the looks of it most people are visiting using Linux anyway at 59%.. then Windoze XP at 12%...

Not sure if my stats is detecting windows 10, or people are just simply not using it...

@exxos Use the Windows 7 backup tool to create an image of your machine, that way you could restore it easily if things go horribly wrong. It's saved my ass on many an occasion and works for Win 10 too.
Collector of many retro things!
800XL and 65XE both with Ultimate1MB,VBXL/XE & PokeyMax, SIDE3, SDrive Max, 2x 1010 cassette, 2x 1050 one with Happy mod, 3x 2600 Jr, 7800 and Lynx II
Approx 20 STs, including a 520 STM, 520 STFMs, 3x Mega ST, MSTE & 2x 32 Mhz boosted STEs
Plus the rest, totalling around 50 machines including a QL, 3x BBC Model B, Electron, Spectrums, ZX81 etc...

Does it get backed up or do you create an image that can be streamed back onto the drive should you need to? Subtle difference I know, but Win7 Backup gives you the option to image, for an MS tool it's actually good.

Also, because it creates a virtual disk, you can mount it separately as a disk if you want.

@rubber_jonnie Its basically a clone of the hard drive, but I can also access files individually from it as well...So I can use this image on a blank drive and I can restore my system that way.I use Paragon hard disk manager 14, is the only program that actually seem to be able to clone a hard drive properly.Been using it for years various things, works well.

I would guess that since your screenshot doesn't show any MacOS versions newer than 10.9, which is around the same age as the newest Windows version listed (8), it means the log analysis software is woefully out of date, and that most of your Windows users are probably ending up in that 44.7% "Unknown" page views category.

Also I would argue that it's not really right to call Android "Linux" on this kind of analysis, since although it's technically a Linux kernel, it's quite a different userbase from the "GNU Linux" users, who comprise only 2.8% of page views.

Which raises another question... What's causing the massive imbalance between "GNU Linux" pages and hits (2.8% vs 32.6%)? It's the only OS listed that has such an imbalance. My suspicion is that this is catching things like health monitoring and search engine crawlers, and does not represent real human viewers. So, I think the distribution you're really looking at here is more like 57% Windows, 40% Android, 3% Linux, and a few Macs.

Edit: I guess iOS must be falling into "unknown" as well, removing a bit from that Windows estimate. Surely some people are using iDevices.

Nod, saw that. Just noting that your stats as they currently are don't look particularly representative. :)
