So here's the progress on the first of whats likely to end up being three or four H5s.
Since the majority or the nuisance stuff is now SMT then I've not really stuck to any installation plan and just soldered things in in a random order, hence the S2 in place already.
I've only got to order the serial chip, 74ls02 and the reset chip and it'll be game on to get it finished.
I've gone for an SMT MMU as my most reliable H4 has both GLUE and MMU as SMT chips. Although I have to locate a GLUE as ive only got PLCC versions of that at the moment. Time to see if I can raid any of my donor STs for the GLUE.

Re: PhilCs H5 A3 build
Nice work @PhilC
It is definitely an easier build this time round with the majority SMT done.
EDIT: just noticed your screwdriver off to the right. I have the exact same ones and if memory serves me right I bought them years ago.

Re: PhilCs H5 A3 build
@Icky yeah I've had them ages as well.

Re: PhilCs H5 A3 build
A little more progress tonight.
All of the sockets are in place, all the ports and all of the SMT chips. I have a whole shed load of header pins to solder in next and then its time to power it up.

Re: PhilCs H5 A3 build
And its all ready for plugging in and testing, well, minus a few jumpers that is.
Compared to the Alpha and the H4 this has been almost a pleasure to build so far.

Re: PhilCs H5 A3 build
Does this count as working?
I've also got a problem with the reset circuit but it boots after a bit of fiddling.

Well... it boots to the desktop. I think that counts.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

I think you have lost your Blue from your RGB @PhilC
