Me too, I'm determined to make it bloody work again, as I blame myself for it dying, should have done the caps sooner. Similar problems with my Amstrad ALT-386, capacitor related, and that took some fixing, that goo is bad juju.

Im more of a 'battery leaked and ruined the mainboard' kind of guy.
Got an old Archimedes A5000 and a 486 mobo that have succumbed to the dreaded ooze. That stuff creeps UP legs! Its relentless.

Re: Mac Classic - will it ever run again!!
I recapped my A1200 recently, that was a close call, caps were starting to ooze. The Macs seem to be the worst for battery explosions, I heard it called 'Maxell Bomb' by somebody. The worst damage was the Amstrad though, a single cap caused hours of repairs and bodge wiring to revive it. It's those little aluminium SMD dustbins that seem to be the worst for some reason. I replace with tantalum bricks where possible, no future danger of leakage!!mrbombermillzy wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 12:41 amHavent had too much trouble with old caps so far.rubber_jonnie wrote: ↑Mon Jan 04, 2021 11:10 pm

Actually, polythene caps are probably the least dangerous long term now.
Intro retro computers since before they were retro...
ZX81->Spectrum->Memotech MTX->Sinclair QL->520STM->BBC Micro->TT030->PCs & Sun Workstations.
Added code to the MiNT kernel (still there the last time I checked) + put together MiNTOS.
Collection now with added Macs, Amigas, Suns and Acorns.

Re: Mac Classic - will it ever run again!!
Hmm, Dead Mac Scrolls is an interesting read, and it seems nearly all of the problems with early Macs that I've looked at so far (I'm only up to page 59 of 489) are analog board related.
And I've found a problem description that seems to match mine. The fix is supposedly replacing the 74LS38N on the Analog Board, so I figure what's to lose?
Parts are on order, we'll see what's what.
